Blacksouls by Nicole Castroman

“Nicole Castroman brings the dangerous pirate ports of the Caribbean to life in this vibrant sequel to Blackhearts—the reimagined origin story of history’s most infamous pirate, Blackbeard.

Edward “Teach” Drummond is setting sail to the Caribbean as first mate on the most celebrated merchant ship in the British fleet—until he rebels against his captain. Mutiny is a capital offense and Teach knows it could cost him his life, but he believes it worth the risk in order to save his crew from the attacking Spanish ships.

Sailing on the same blue waters, Anne barely avoids the Spanish attack, making it safely to Nassau. But lawless criminals, corrupt politics, and dangerous intentions fill the crowded streets of this Caribbean port. Soon, Anne discovers that the man entrusted to keep the peace is quite possibly the most treacherous of them all—and he just happens to hold Teach’s fate in his terrifying hands.

Life and death hang in the balance when Teach and Anne are given a dangerous mission. It’s a mission that will test their love, loyalty and devotion, forcing them down a path neither one could have ever imagined. ” ~ Description from Goodreads

ALRIGHT GUYS! Those of you who know me, know my obsessive love affair with pirates sooooooo…. surprise, surprise… It should be no shocked that I plowed through both Blackhearts and Blacksouls and scheduled their reviews back to back.

I loved Blacksouls even more than the first. This book picks up right about where the last one left off. We have left England and are in the Caribbean! The picture that Castroman painted for Nassau in this book reminded me a lot of the show Black Sails. I love the details in the story telling she provides. I could vivid picture everything in my head.

This book had more action and drama than the last book. There is a lot going on with the African slave trade and again for the time and place, you can tell real research went into creating this amazing fictional story of Blackbeard.

Blacksouls had a whole new cast of characters and I can honestly said I liked them all. Teach and Anne are also an amazing couple. The more their romance evolves, the more I like them.

The last 100 or so pages of this book had enough plot twist and turns and backstabbing and jaw dropping moments that I’m gonna need some time to recover…..

I love this series…. LOVE IT! I really hope there is more to come. Maybe they will venture to Jamaica next? Maybe they will even venture into my own backyard to Saint Augustine or my old home of Savannah! The colonies had quite a bit of pirate action. Here’s to hoping for a book 3!!
