Protogenesis: Before The Beginning by Alysia Helming:
I absolutely adored this book. So much so I wish I could dive straight into the next one right now. I love books where the stories revolve around the ancient mythical gods. This book had a Rock Riordan feel to it which is great because that is one of my favorite authors. Protogenesis starts off with a bang! Helene’s mother goes missing, presumed dead. She is attacked by some ‘mafia’ hitmen in her own house but escapes and is swept off to Greece to a godfather she never knew she had. Helene has to discover the truth about what happened to her mom, who wants her dead, and try to be a normal a normal high school girl all at the same time. Did I mention that the fate of not one but TWO worlds is also at stake? That’s a lot for one person to shoulder all in a couple of weeks. Helene is everything I like to see in a heroine. She is determined, smart and no-nonsense. (Except when it comes to her little love triangle with Nick and Ever). This book is action packed! It’s also cool that this book has its own theme song. That was a unique twist. I’ll be impatiently awaiting the next book….. That cliff hanger at the end…. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! I’m totally sucked into this series. I recommend it to anyone who loves a great adventure through different worlds and mythology. 5 out of 5 stars here!
